Performing arts head to Mildura

Wednesday, 23 May 2007

Residents of Mildura are in for a treat in coming months with performances by TaikOz & Synergy Percussion and Patch Theatre Company, The Nationals Member for Mallee, John Forrest said today.

‘The latest round of funding for Playing Australia, the Australian Government’s program for encouraging tours of regional and remote areas by Australian performing artists, will ensure that local residents don’t miss out on these events,’ Mr Forrest said.

‘I am very pleased to say that Australian performing arts groups have recognised the size of the audiences available to them away from capital cities. With this Government support, they are able to stage their productions for appreciative audiences in the very fine facilities we have in our region.’

Funds from Playing Australia will support a tour of the ‘TaikOz: The Gathering’ by TaikOz & Synergy Percussion to the Mildura Arts Centre.

In addition, there will be performances by Patch Theatre Company with the production of ‘Emily Loves to Bounce’

‘Nationally, 17 productions will receive a total of over $2.4M to support performances mainly in regional and remote areas,’ Mr Forrest said. ‘These tours will provide the equivalent of approximately three years employment for 171 performing arts workers.’

Playing Australia has assisted performing arts tours since 1992. Visit www.dcita.gov.au/artsfunding to access the Playing Australia website which has full details of the program and a list of current funding recipients.
