Applications for the popular VicTalent grants for rural and regional athletes, coaches, officials and teams, for travel between July 1 2010 and December 31 2010, will close on March 10 2010, The Nationals Member for Morwell, Russell Northe, said today.
Mr Northe said the grants, formerly part of the Country Action Grant scheme, provide financial assistance of $500 to support developing rural and regional athletes and officials required to travel extensively for training and competition.
“I know it can be financially difficult for regional sports men and women to travel to competitions that occur in areas out of Gippsland, and through their local sporting organisations they can apply for this funding assistance,” Mr Northe said.
“I’m concerned that many of our country athletes find it difficult to cover the cost of travelling to sporting events and training and purchasing the equipment they need to succeed in their selected sports, when their participation is highly valued and recognised.
“This program does provide some help to those people striving to realise their sporting potential at the pinnacle of their chosen sport.
